Timesheet Hours Calculator: Add Up Your Week

Add up hours worked from start times, end times and unpaid breaks. Get each day, the weekly total, decimal hours and the part over your weekly limit. Runs in your browser.

Your times stay in this browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.

Shifts for the week

Leave a day blank if you did not work. Use 24-hour times (17:30) or am/pm (5:30pm). If the end is earlier than the start, the shift is counted as ending after midnight.

Weekly limit

Type the number your own contract or local rules use. Use 168 to turn the split off.

When to use this

  • You have start times, end times and breaks for a week and want the total hours.
  • You need hours as h:mm and as decimal hours for a pay form or an invoice.
  • You want to see how many hours fall over a weekly limit you choose.

How to use

  1. For each day you worked, type the start time, the end time and the unpaid break in minutes.
  2. Leave days you did not work blank.
  3. Check the weekly limit. It starts at 40 hours. Change it to the number your own rules use.
  4. Press Add up my hours. Read the total, the split and the day-by-day table.

Examples

Understanding the result

Each day is end minus start, plus 24 hours when the end is earlier than the start, minus the break. The week is the sum of the days. Hours over your limit are the total minus the limit, never below zero. Decimal hours are minutes divided by 60 and rounded to two places, so 7:45 is 7.75.

FAQ

How do I add up hours and minutes on a timesheet?

Subtract the start time from the end time for each day, take off the unpaid break, then add the days. This tool does that and shows the answer as h:mm and as decimal hours.

How do I turn 7:45 hours into decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60. 45 minutes is 0.75 of an hour, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 decimal hours. The results table shows both.

How are night shifts that pass midnight counted?

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the tool counts the end as the next day. 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours before the break.

What does the weekly limit do?

It splits your total into the hours up to the limit and the hours above it. It starts at 40, but overtime rules differ by country and employer, so type your own number.

Are my times sent anywhere?

No. The sums run in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or sent to a server, and the tool does not put your times in the page address.
