Words to Pages Converter: How Many Pages Is My Word Count?
Turn a word count or pasted text into an estimated page range, or pages into words. Choose page size, margins, font style and size, and line spacing. Runs in your browser.
Your text stays in this browser. It is counted and measured on your device, never uploaded or sent to a server, never saved, and not put in the page address.

When to use this
- You have a word count and want to know roughly how many pages it will fill.
- A teacher or editor gave you a page limit and you want to know how many words that is.
- You want to see how margins, font size and line spacing change the page count.
How to use
- Enter a word count, or paste your text to count and measure it here.
- Pick the page size and margins, then the font style, size and line spacing.
- Optionally enter a number of pages to turn into words.
- Press Estimate pages and read the range, not just the middle number.
Examples
- Double-spaced essay: Use the double-spaced essay preset with 2000 words. The page shows the range this tool calculates for that layout.
- Small book page: Use the small book page preset to see how a 6 x 9 inch page with single spacing holds more words per page than a letter page.
Understanding the result
The tool works out how many characters fit on a line and how many lines fit on a page from the page size, margins, font size and line spacing. It divides your text into lines and then into pages. The range comes from letting the average character width, the average word length and the line height each vary a little. The middle number is the best guess. All of these averages are unsourced assumptions, so the result is this tool's own calculation, not an official standard.
Assumptions this tool makes
- Average character widths are typical values for each generic font style: about 0.45 of the font size for serif, 0.5 for sans-serif and 0.6 for monospace.
- An average word is about 6 characters including the space after it.
- Normal line height is about 1.15 times the font size, then multiplied by the line spacing you choose.
- With a word count only, paragraphs are about 120 words long unless you change it.
Limitations
- Your real font, your word processor and its line breaking can give a different page count. Check in your own document.
- Headings, titles, images, tables, footnotes, page breaks and hyphenation are not counted.
- Pasted text is measured with a generic browser font, not the font you will print in. Blank lines are ignored.
- Text is limited to 3,000,000 characters and word counts to 50,000,000.
FAQ
How many pages is 2000 words?
It depends on the layout. Choose your page size, margins, font and line spacing and press Estimate pages to see a range for 2000 words.
How many words is one page?
The page shows the range of words that fit on one full page with your settings. Single-spaced pages hold more words than double-spaced ones.
Why is the answer a range?
Fonts differ in width and spacing, and the tool only knows a generic style. The range shows how far the answer could reasonably move.
Can I convert pages to words?
Yes. Enter a number of pages and the tool gives the range of words that would fill that many full pages.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The text is counted and measured in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored, and it is not put in the page address.
