When to use this
- You are filling in a paper check and want the written-amount line spelled correctly.
- You need a number spelled out for an invoice, a receipt or a contract draft.
- You want both the fraction style (56/100) and a fully spelled-out version to compare.
How to use
- Type the amount in figures. Commas and a currency sign are fine; use at most two decimals.
- Choose a currency word and how capital letters and the cents should look.
- Press Write it in words and copy the line you need.
Examples
- 1,234.56: One thousand two hundred thirty-four and 56/100. Fully spelled out: One thousand two hundred thirty-four dollars and fifty-six cents.
- 100.00: One hundred and 00/100. A whole-dollar amount still shows the 00/100 fraction on the check line.
Understanding the result
The dollars are spelled out in groups of thousands, with a hyphen from 21 to 99 and no extra 'and' inside the number. The cents are shown as a fraction over 100 on the standard check line, or in words in the fully spelled-out version.
Limitations
- Not financial or legal advice. Your bank decides what it accepts.
- Amounts from 0.01 to 999,999,999,999.99 with at most two decimals.
- English only. Other languages and long-scale number names are not covered.
- The tool does not print on check stock or validate a check number.
